Musselman was born in Licking County. Ohio on July 28, 1843. He was living in Pekin (Tazewell County), Illinois when he enlisted on August 8, 1862. The 19-year old harness maker was mustered on August 28, 1862. He served nearly 3 years and was mustered out August 5, 1865 at Vicksburg, Mississippi.
The 108th Illinois Infantry was organized and mustered on August 28, 1862 at Peoria, Illinois. During Musselman’s enlistment, the regiment was part of the Siege of Spanish Fort and Fort Blakely (AL) from March 26 through April 8, 1865.
Musselman died on October 16, 1946 at the age of 103 years. He is buried in the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Norfolk (Madison County), Nebraska. At the time of his death, he was the last member of the Mathewson Post (#109) of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) in Norfolk. In addition, he was a member of the Reynolds Post (#26) of the GAR in Osceola, Nebraska.
