Private William Balfour
Company I, 45th Illinois Infantry
Balfour was born in Prussia on April 5, 1845. He was residing in Newport (Lake County), Illinois when he enlisted in the regiment on December 19, 1861. Balfour was mustered on December 24, 1861 and served about 7 months with the unit. He was discharged on July 30, 1862 due to disability.
Balfour died on April 4, 1935 at the age of 89 years. He is buried in the Cowles Hill Cemetery near Nebraska City (Otoe County), Nebraska. Balfour was a member of the Baumer Post (#24) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Nebraska City.
