Ball was born in Kentucky on March 3, 1843. He enlisted and was mustered in the regiment on April 22, 1865 at Lebanon, Kentucky. His date of discharge was not available.

The 125th United States Colored Troops was organized at Louisville, Kentucky between February 12 and June 2, 1865. The unit was assigned to garrison and guard duty in Kentucky. The unit was mustered out on December 20, 1867.

Ball died on November 30, 1930. He is buried in the Hemingford Cemetery in Hemington (Box Butte County), Nebraska.
