Private William R Burton

Burton was born in Missouri on June 30, 1843. He was residing in Floyd County, Indiana when he enlisted and was mustered in the regiment on July 29, 1861. He served over 2 years before be discharged on November 9, 1863. Burton’s obituary indicates that he was wounded in one of the battles in the Vicksburg Campaign of mid-1863. After recovering from his wound, he served in the quartermaster department of the Army of the Cumberland until the conclusion of the Civil War.
He died on May 24, 1935 at the age of 91 years. He is buried in the Parkview Cemetery in Hastings (Adams County), Nebraska. Burton was a member of the Strickland Post (#13) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Hastings.
