Company I, 26th New York Cavalry

Brand was born in New York on September 10, 1849. He enlisted in the regiment on February 13, 1865 at Malone, New York. He was mustered on February 23, 1865 and went on to serve about 4 months. Brand was discharged on July 3, 1865 at Ogdensburgh, New York.

The 26th New York Cavalry was organized for one year’s service on the northern frontier of New York. Company K was mustered at Buffalo, New York on February 24, 1865 and was mustered out on June 29, 1865 at Fort Porter, New York.

Brand died on January 2, 1932. He is buried in the Enon Cemetery in Custer County, Nebraska. Brand was a member of the Steedman Post (#180) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Ansley, Nebraska.
