Chamberlin was born on January 9, 1845. The exact dates of his enlistment and discharge from both regiments were not available. One source indicates that Chamberlin was mustered in the 2nd Colorado Infantry on July 5, 1862. The 2nd Colorado Cavalry was organized at St Louis by the consolidation of the 2nd and 3rd Colorado Infantry regiments. The reorganization was implemented in October 1863.
The 2nd Colorado Cavalry was assigned to protecting the borders of Kansas and operations against guerillas. In 1864 the regiment fought at the Battle of Westport (October 23, 1864) in the Kansas City area.
Chamberlin died on April 23, 1930 at the age of 85 years. He is buried in the IOOF Cemetery in Stanton (Stanton County), Nebraska. Chamberlin was a member of the Kendall Post (#190) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Stanton.
