Campion was born in Ireland on October 28, 1839. He was residing in Iowa City (Johnson County), Iowa when he enlisted in the regiment on April 18, 1861. He was mustered on May 14, 1861. Campion was wounded on August 10, 1861 at the Battle of Wilson’s Creek (MO). He was discharged on August 21, 1861 due to the wound.
Campion died on July 9, 1930 at the age of 90 years. He is buried in te Leland Cemetery in Beaver Crossing (Seward County), Nebraska. Campion was a member of the McCook Post (#31) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Ashland, Nebraska.
