Hoffman’s Battalion Infantry

Company C, 128th Ohio Infantry

Hoffman was born in Milton (Miami County), Ohio on April 22, 1844. He enlisted in Hoffman’s Battaliion Infantry on August 9, 1862. The Battalion transferred to the 128th Ohio Infantry on January 5, 1864. Carson was discharged on June 5, 1865.

Hoffman’s Battalion Infantry was organized in December 1861 for prison guard duty at Johnson’s Island in Ohio. The 128th Ohio Infantry was organized at Columbus between December 1863 and January 1864. The unit performed duties similar to the Hoffman Battalion.

Carson died on November 10, 1933 at the age of 89 years. He is buried in the Geneva Cemetery in Geneva (Fillmore County), Nebraska. Carson was a member of the Webb Post (#18) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Fairmont, Nebraska.
