Chamberlain was born in Ohio on October 11, 1841. He was living in Cambridge (Story County), Iowa when he enlisted in the regiment on August 11, 1862. Chamberlain was mustered on August 21, 1862. Private Chamberlain was wounded on May 17, 1863 at the Battle of Big Black River Bridge (MS). He was discharged due to the wound on August 10, 1863 at Vicksburg, Mississippi.
He died on January 14, 1938 at the age of 96 years. He is buried in the Glencoe Cemetery in Dodge (Dodge County), Nebraska. Chamberlain was a member of the Kendall Post (#190) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Stanton, Nebraska.
