Crouch was born in Washington County, Iowa in July, 1844. He was living in Fairbury (Livingston County), Illinois when he enlisted into the 3rd Illinois Cavalry on January 4, 1864. Crouch was mustered on April 28, 1864 and went on to serve about 13 months. He was discharged due to disability on June 7, 1865.
Thomas A. Crouch died on August 4, 1930 at the age of 86 years. He is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Greenwood (Cass County), Nebraska. Crouch was a member of the Farragut Post (#25) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Lincoln, Nebraska.
