Private George W Doty

Doty was born in Johnstown (West Moreland County), Pennsylvania on April 20, 1844. He was living in Clayton County, Iowa when he enlisted in the regiment on August 27, 1864. Doty was mustered on September 7, 1864 and went on to serve about 13 months. He was discharged on October 17, 1865 at Sioux City.
The 6th Iowa Cavalry was organized at Davenport between January 31 and March 5, 1863. The unit was sent to the Dakota Territory and served under General Alfred Sully. They were engaged in operations against Indians during their deployment.
Doty died on January 20, 1930 at the age of 85 years. He is buried in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Springview (Keya Paha County), Nebraska.
