Dufo (also spelled Dufoe) was born in Illinois on April 8, 1844. He was living in Delhi (Delaware County), Iowa when he enlisted and was mustered in the regiment on October 8, 1863. He served 1 year and 10 months before his discharge on August 8, 1865 at Atlanta, Georgia.
During Dufo’s enlistment the unit was assigned to several southern states. It fought at the Battle of Westport (MO) on October 23, 1864. During the latter stages of the War, it was engaged in the Battle of Selma (AL) (April 2, 1865) and the capture of Macon (GA) on April 20, 1865.
Dufo died on December 12, 1932 at the age of 88 years. He is buried in the Belgrade Cemetery in Belgrade (Nance County), Nebraska.
