Dryden was born in Bedford County, Tennessee on December 25, 1846. He was residing in Neoga (Cumberland County), Illinois when he enlisted and was mustered in the regiment on December 15, 1863. He served about 2 years and 3 months. Dryden was discharged at Little Rock, Arkansas on March 6, 1866.
During Dryden’s enlistment, the unit was assigned to duties in Arkansas. In July 1865, the regiment was moved to Fort Gibson in the Cherokee Nation. It remained at that location until it was mustered out on March 6, 1866.
Dryden died on August 25, 1936 at the age of 89 years. He is buried in the Farnam Cemetery in Farnam (Dawson County), Nebraska. Dryden was a member of two (2) posts of the Grand Army of the Republic:
