Edmonston (also spelled Edmiston) was born in 1842. He enlisted and was mustered into the regiment on August 6, 1862. Edmonston served 2 years and 10 months. He was discharged on June 30, 1865 at Indianapolis.
The 18th Indiana Light Artillery was organized and mustered at Indianapolis on August 20, 1862. During Edmonston’s enlistment, the regiment was in several major battles and campaigns. Some of them include:
Tullahoma Campaign (TN) (June 23-July 7, 1863).
Chickamauga Campaign (GA) (August 16-September 22, 1863).
Battle of Chickamauga (GA) (September 19-21, 1863).
Atlanta Campaign (GA) (May 1-September 8, 1864).
Battle of Resaca (GA) (May 14-15, 1864).
Assault on Kenesaw Mountain (GA) (June 27, 1864).
Siege of Atlanta (GA) (July 22-August 25, 1864).
Edmonston died on May 29, 1934 at the age of 91 years. He is buried in the Belvidere Cemetery in Belvidere (Thayer County), Nebraska. Edmonston was a member of the Morton Post (#17) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Hebron, Nebraska.
