Fitzpatrick was born in Ireland on April 5, 1847. He was residing in Bureau (Bureau County), Illinois when he enlisted and was mustered in the regiment on February 13, 1865. Fitzpatrick served about 11 months and was discharged on January 24, 1866.
The 151st Illinois Infantry was organized and mustered for 1 year on February 23, 1865 at Quincy, Illinois. It was assigned to duty in Georgia until it was mustered out in January 1866.
Fitzpatrick died on July 28, 1933 at the age of 87 years. He is buried in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Hebron (Thayer County), Nebraska. Fitzpatrick was a member of the Memorial Post (#151) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Shickley, Nebraska.
