Private Oscar D Herrick

Herrick was born in Maine on April 25, 1841. He was residing in Princeton (Bureau County), Illinois when he enlisted in the regiment on September 30, 1862. Herrick was mustered on October 26, 1861 and went on to serve his 3 year enlistment. He was discharged on October 31, 1864 at Springfield, Illinois.
The 9th Illinois Cavalry was organized at Camp Douglas (Chicago), Illinois on November 30, 1861. The unit was assigned to several southern states and was part of the Battle of Tupelo (MS) on July 14-15, 1864.
Herrick died on May 1, 1934 at the age of 93 years. He is buried in the Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln (Lancaster County), Nebraska. Herrick was a member of the Farragut Post (#25) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Lincoln.
