Henry was born in Iowa in 1834. He was residing in Crawford County, Illinois when he enlisted in the regiment on December 15, 1861. Henry was mustered on April 10, 1862 and served about 9 months. Illinois records indicate that Henry deserted at Jackson, Tennessee on January 31, 1863. Henry re-enlisted in the Union Army as a member of Company A of the 28th Illinois Infantry. He enlisted on January 11, 1864 and was mustered on February 21, 1864. Henry served about 5 months and was discharged on July 14, 1864. He re-enlisted as a member of the United States Regular Army. His date of discharge was not available.
Henry died on September 27, 1931. He is buried in the Tecumseh Cemetery in Tecumseh (Johnson County), Nebraska. Henry was a member of the Heckathorn Post (#47) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Tecumseh.
