Private Wesley C Hummel

Company M, 12th Illinois Cavalry Consolidated

Hummel was born in Pennsylvania in June of 1847. He enlisted and mustered in the regiment on February 1, 1864. Hummel served about 16 months. He was discharged on May 29, 1866.

During his enlistment, the unit served in several southern states (including Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arkansas). Their duties involved picketing and scouting.

Hummel died on March 2, 1937 at the age of 89 years. He is buried in the Helm Cemetery in Dawson (Richardson County), Nebraska. Hummel was a member of the Farragut Post (#25) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Lincoln, Nebraska.
