Company G, 44th Wisconsin Infantry

Lyon was born in Wisconsin on March 21, 1847. Lyon was living in Blue Mounds (Dane County), Wisconsin when he enlisted and mustered in the regiment on January 28, 1865. He served about 7 months before his discharge on August 16, 1865.

The 44th Wisconsin Infantry was organized at Madison, Wisconsin in October and November 1864. During Lyon’s enlistment the unit was assigned to garrison duty in Paducah, Kentucky.

Lyon died on August 30, 1938 at the age of 91 years. He is buried in the Kearney Cemetery in Kearney (Buffalo County), Nebraska. Lyon was a member of the Sedgwick Post (#1) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Kearney.
