Manchester was born on June 23, 1845. He enlisted and mustered in the regiment on March 10, 1862 at Boonville, New York. Manchester re-enlisted on March 12, 1864 and served 3 years and 4 months. Battle of Spotsylvania Court House (VA) (May 12-21, 1864).

Siege of Petersburg (VA) (June 16, 1864 to April 2, 1865).

Battle of Five Forks (VA) (April 1, 1865).

Fall of Petersburg (VA) (April 2, 1865).

At Appomattox Court House (VA) when General Lee surrendered (April 9, 1865).

Grand Review of the Troops (Washington DC) (May 23, 1865).

Manchester died on July 7, 1931 at the age of 86 years. He is buried in the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Omaha (Douglas County), Nebraska.
