Madison was born in Altoona (Blair County), Pennsylvania on May 28, 1839. He enlisted and mustered in the regiment on January 21, 1865. Pennsylvania records indicate that Madison enlisted as a substitute. He served about 6 months before he was discharged on July 17, 1865 at Alexandria, Virginia.
He joined the regiment in the final stages of the War. During his enlistment, the regiment was involved in the Siege of Petersburg (VA) and participated in the Grand Review of the Troops in Washington DC on May 23, 1865.
Madison died on December 22, 1932 at the age of 93 years. He is buried in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Omaha (Douglas County), Nebraska.
