Moore was born in Maquon (Knox County), Illinois on September 13, 1842. He was enlisted in the regiment at Maquon on October 5, 1863. Moore was mustered on June 21, 1864 and served about 13 months. He was discharged on July 31, 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee.
The 14th Illinois Cavalry was organized at Peoria, Illinois between January 7, 1863 and February 6, 1863. During his enlistment the regiment was assigned to the Atlanta (GA) Campaign (June 28-September 8, 1864). In addition, the regiment fought at two major battles in 1864:
Battle of Franklin (TN) (November 30, 1864).
Battle of Nashville (TN) (December 15-16, 1864).
Moore died on February 24, 1933 at the age of 90 years. He is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in York (York County), Nebraska. Moore was a member of the Anderson Post (#32) of the Grand Army of the Republic in York.
