Private Charles F Putnam

Putnam was born on February 28, 1844. He enlisted on February 10, 1864 at Colesville, New York. Putnam was mustered on February 16, 1864 and served about 13 months. He was discharged on July 19, 1865 at Winchester, Virginia.
Putnam joined the regiment in the final stages of the War. During his enlistment, the unit was involved in several major battles, campaigns, and historic events. Some of them include:
General Sheridan’s Shenandoah Valley Campaign (VA) (August 7-November 28, 1864).
Battle of Winchester (VA) (September 19, 1864).
Battle of Fisher’s Hill (VA) (September 21, 1864).
Battle of Cedar Creek (VA) (October 19, 1864).
Battle of Five Forks (VA) April 1, 1865).
At Appomattox Court House when General Lee surrendered the Army of Northern Virginia (April 9, 1865).
Putnam died on August 2, 1932 at the age of 88 years. He is buried in the Cowles Cemetery in Cowles (Webster County), Nebraska.
