Private William F Ramsey

Company I, 2nd Iowa Cavalry

Ramsey was born in Mansfield (Richland County), Ohio on May 8, 1845. He was residing in Des Moines County, Iowa when he enlisted and mustered in the regiment on February 29, 1864. Ramsey served a little less than 19 months. He was discharged on September 19, 1865 at Selma, Alabama.

He joined the regiment in the early part of 1864. During Ramsey’s enlistment, the regiment fought at the Battle of Franklin (TN) (November 30, 1864) and the Battle of Nashville (TN) (December 15-16, 1864).

Ramsey died on January 24, 1940 at the age of 94 years. He is buried in the Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln (Lancaster County), Nebraska. Ramsey was a member of Dix Post (#52) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Blair, Nebraska.
