Ricketts was born in Findlay (Hancock County), Ohio on March 18, 1845. The 18 year old enlisted in the regiment on May 2, 1864 and was mustered on May 6, 1864. Ricketts served about 4 months. He was discharged on August 31, 1864 at Camp Chase, Ohio.
The 134th Ohio Infantry was organized and mustered at Camp Chase, Ohio on May 5, 1864. The regiment was assigned to picket duty and operations against Richmond, Virginia until it was discharged in August 1864.
Ricketts died on June 18, 1932 at the age of 87 years. He is buried in the Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln (Lancaster County), Nebraska. Ricketts was a member of two (2) Grand Army of the Republic Posts in Lincoln: Farragut Post (#25) and Appomattox Post (#214).
