Saddler was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky on August 15, 1844. He enlisted in the 32nd Kentucky Infantry on January 1, 1863 at Camp Burnside, Kentucky. Saddler was mustered on April 15, 1863 and served an undetermined term until he transferred to the 13th Kentucky Cavalry. He enlisted in the 13th Kentucky Cavalry on August 14, 1863 as a corporal. Saddler was mustered on December 23, 1863 and served a little over 1 year. He was discharged on January 10, 1865.
The 13th Kentucky Cavalry was organized at Lebanon, Kentucky on December 22, 1863. The regiment was assigned to duties in Kentucky and Virginia until it was mustered out on January 10, 1865.
Saddler died on February 5, 1932 at the age of 87 years. He is buried in the Juniata Cemetery in Juniata (Adams County), Nebraska. Saddler was a member of two (2) posts of the Grand Army of the Republic:
Strickland Post (#13) in Hastings.
Geary Post (#81) in Juniata.
