Shader was born in New York on August 12, 1847. He was residing in Dunn County, Wisconsin when he enlisted and mustered in the regiment on March 9, 1865. Shader served about 5 months. He was discharged on July 28, 1865 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
The 52nd Wisconsin Infantry was organized at Madison, Wisconsin during April 1865. The unit was assigned to railroad guard duty in Missouri and other duties at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
Shader died on February 25, 1934 at the age of 86 years. Shader is buried in the Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln (Lancaster County), Nebraska. He was a member of the Farragut Post (#25) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Lincoln.
