Private Robert Taggart
Company A, 1st Nebraska Battalion, 2nd Brigade Cavalry
Taggart was born in Illinois on January 9, 1848. He enlisted in the battalion on August 12, 1864 and served a little over 4 months. Taggart was discharged on December 21, 1864.
The 1st Nebraska Battalion was organized at Omaha between January and August 1864. It performed operations against Indians in Nebraska and Colorado and guarded mail routes.
Taggart died on July 14, 1937 at the age of 89 years. He is buried in the Rosewood Hill Cemetery in Palmyra (Otoe County), Nebraska. Taggart was a member of the Mansfield Post (#54) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Palmyra.
