Wonderly was born in Altoona (Blair County), Pennsylvania on July 21, 1848. He was residing in Mount Pleasant (Henry County), Wisconsin when he enlisted and mustered in the regiment on August 25, 1864. Wonderly served about 9 months and was discharged on June 2, 1865.
Companies A through D were organized and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin on April 15, 1864. Wonderly’s Company (H) joined the regiment on October 1, 1864. During his enlistment, the regiment was involved in several battles and military operations. Some of them include:
Appomattox Campaign (VA) (March 28-April 9, 1865).
Assault and fall of Petersburg (VA) (April 3, 1865).
Occupation of Petersburg (VA) (April 3, 1865).
Grand Review of the Troops (Washington DC) (May 1865).
Wonderly died on April 23, 1936 at the age of 87 years. He is buried in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Imperial (Chase County), Nebraska.
