Whitney (also called Whiting) was born in Ohio on January 23, 1840. He was residing in Princeton (Bureau County), Illinois when he enlisted and mustered on August 13, 1862. Illinois records indicate that his name was “Whiting”. Additional information regarding his service with the regiment was not available.
He died on January 10, 1934 at the age of 93 years. Whitney is buried in the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery in Grand Island (Hall County), Nebraska. He was a member of the following Nebraska Posts of the Grand Army of the Republic:
Stewart Post (#177) in Stuart, Nebraska.
