Corporal Thaddeus Trimmer
Company E, 2nd Nebraska Cavalry
Trimmer was born in Ohio on August 8, 1840. He enlisted in the regiment at Brownville, Nebraska on November 8, 1862. The 22-year old corporal was mustered on December 8, 1862. Trimmer served about 13 months and was mustered out on December 23, 1863.
The 2nd Nebraska Cavalry was organized at Omaha on October 23, 1862. The regiment was assigned to protecting emigrants, stage and telegraph lines, and operating against Indians. In addition, it was part of General Sully’s expedition against Indians in the Dakota Territory (August 13-September 11, 1863).
Trimmer died on April 19, 1931 at the age of 90 years. He is buried in the Liberty Cemetery in Liberty (Gage County), Nebraska. He was a member of the Barry Post (#159) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Liberty.
