Johnson was born on August 29, 1845. He enlisted and was mustered in the Regiment on August 26, 1864. He served about 10 months and was mustered out June 15, 1865 at Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The “Find-a-Grave” website indicated that Johnson was a pioneer of Richardson County. He died on December 31, 1922 at the age of 77 years. He is buried in the Rulo Cemetery in Rulo (Richardson County), Nebraska. Johnson was the last known member of the Trego Post (#166) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Rulo.
