Robinson was born in Missouri on December 31, 1846. He was living in Genesco (Harvey County), Illinois when he enlisted and was mustered in the regiment on January 19, 1865. The 18-year old farmer enlisted for 1 year. He served with that outfit until he was transferred to the 65th Illinois Infantry in June 1865. He was mustered out on July 13, 1865 at Greensboro, North Carolina.
The Sons of the Union Veterans and the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) indicate that Robinson died on April 29, 1934 at the age of 87 years. According to those sources, he is buried in the Utica Cemetery in Utica (Seward County), Nebraska. His name was not included in the burials for the Utica Cemetery. At the time of his death, he was the last member of the Winchester Post (#139) of the GAR in Utica.
