Private Willard A Morgan
Company C, 12th Michigan Infantry
Morgan was born on February 16, 1850. Michigan enlistment records indicate that Morgan was 18 years old when he enlisted in the regiment on January 13, 1865. If the date of birth is correct, Morgan would have been 14 years when he joined the unit. His age casts some doubt on either his date of birth or his actual service during the Civil War. Michigan records indicate that he was a substitute soldier and served about 1 year. He was mustered out January 15, 1866 at Little Rock, Arkansas. During his enlistment, the unit was assigned to Arkansas and was responsible for guarding public property.
Morgan died on December 16, 1942 at the age of 92 years. He is buried in the Belvidere Cemetery in Belvidere (Thayer County), Nebraska. He was a member of the Morton Post (#17) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Hebron, Nebraska.
