Private Adam F Rexroad

Rexroad was born in Illinois in March of 1849. He was residing in Newton (Whiteside County), Illinois when he enlisted in the regiment on February 18, 1864. He was mustered in on March 5, 1864 and served 16 months. Rexroad was mustered out on at Louisville, Kentucky on July 12, 1865. The 15 year old enlisted for 3 years.
Rexroad joined the regiment during the Atlanta Campaign (May-September 1864). For the balance of his enlistment, the outfit was involved in several major battles and military operations. Some of them include:
Battle of Resaca (GA) (May 14-15, 1864).
Assault on Kenesaw Mountain (GA) (June 27, 1864).
Battle of Peach Tree Creek (GA) (July 19-20, 1864).
Siege of Atlanta (GA) (July 22-August 25, 1864).
Pursuit of General Hood (GA/AL) (September 29-November 3, 1864).
General Sherman’s “March to the Sea” (GA) (November 15-December 10, 1864).
Siege of Savannah (GA) (December 10-21, 1864).
Campaign of the Carolinas (January-April 1865).
Battle of Bentonville (NC) (March 19-21, 1865).
At the Bennett House (Raleigh NC) when General Johnston surrendered the Army of Tennessee (April 26, 1865).
Grand Review of the Troops (Washington DC) (May 24, 1865).
Rexroad died on November 13, 1942 at the age of 93 years. He is buried in the Grand Island Cemetery in Grand Island (Hall County), Nebraska. Rexroad was a member of the Custer Post (#7) in Omaha and the Plumb Post (#204) in Wilsonville, Nebraska.
