Company F, 3rd Michigan Infantry (2nd organization)
Boyer was born in Tuscarawas County, Ohio in May of 1846. The 18 year old enlisted in the regiment on September 15, 1864. Boyer was mustered on September 20, 1864 and served about 1 year. He was mustered out on September 26, 1865 at Detroit.
The 3rd Michigan Infantry (2nd organization) was organized at Grand Rapids, Adrian, and Pontiac, Michigan between August 24 and October 12, 1864. The 3rd Michigan Infantry (1st organization) was organized and mustered on May 21, 1861 at Grand Rapids. The unit was mustered out in June 1864. During Boyer’s enlistment, the regiment was assigned to duties in Alabama, Louisiana, and Tennessee.
Boyer died on September 17, 1932 at the age of 86 years. He is buried in the Nebraska Veteran’s Home Cemetery in Grand Island (Hall County), Nebraska. He was a charter member and the last member of the Number 66 Post (#330) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Hull, Nebraska.
