Private Francis A Kilmer

Company D, 1st Battalion – Minnesota Infantry

Kilmer was born in Canada on July 15, 1845. The 20 year old enlisted and was mustered in the regiment on July 15, 1865. Kilmer served about 4 months. He was mustered out of the unit on July 14, 1865 at Jeffersonville, Indiana.

The 1st Battalion, Minnesota Infantry originally consisted of 2 companies organized from the 1st Regiment, Minnesota Infantry. The unit was ordered to Washington DC and was mustered out on July 14, 1865.

Kilmer died on February 17, 1917. He is buried in the McCoy Cemetery in Meadow Grove (Madison County), Nebraska. He was one of the last members of the Hazen Post (#240) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Bartlett, Nebraska.
