Company G, 194th New York Infantry

Cleland was born in Ontario, Canada on October 11, 1846. He enlisted and was mustered at Lockport, New York on March 25, 1865. Cleland served less than 2 months and was mustered out May 3, 1865 at Hart’s Island (New York Harbor), New York.

The 194th New York Infantry was organized at Elmira, New York. Company G was mustered in at Hart’s Island.

Cleland died on July 11, 1939 at the age of 92 years. He is buried in the Bellwood Cemetery in Bellwood (Butler County), Nebraska. At the time of his death, he was the last member of the Lowell Post (#83) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Bellwood.
