Field expands, Texas rises to crown

Series highlights

Texas coach Bibb Falk won his first of two back-to-back titles.

The CWS field, moved to Wichita, Kan., in part due to financial difficulties, was expanded from two to four teams, a result of a more regional approach to the qualifying process.

In the final game, Longhorn Tom Hamilton had four RBIs and one home run, and teammate Jim Shamblin went 5 for 6 with a triple, a double, three RBIs and one run as Texas beat Wake Forest 10-3.
