Missouri southpaw Ed Cook was carried off the field after he pitched the Tigers to their first national championship in a 4-1 victory over Rollins College. Cook scattered six hits and struck out eight batters.
The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the second inning after a solo homer by Bud Cox. Rollins cut into the lead with an RBI single in the fourth inning, but it would be all the runs they would get.
Missouri went ahead 3-1 after an RBI single by Emil Kammer in the bottom of the fourth. The Tigers added another run in the fifth inning on an RBI single by George Gleason.
The 1954 College World Series set a record with a total attendance of 35,403.

Yewcic, considered a surprise winner, hit .364 in the series with five RBIs.
