There are “horses” for courses, and Jim Daley was that at Omaha's Benson Park in his prime. Three of “Harpo's” five World-Herald Publinks titles were won on that par-72 course in the 1970s and 1980s. His best round there was in the summer of 1985, when he made eight birdies in a nine-hole stretch starting on the eighth hole and lopped two strokes off the course record with a 10-under 62. “I really hit it good,” he said at the time. “I made only one long putt and chipped in from the collar (once).''

Daley was 11 under going to the 17th hole, but he bogeyed after hitting his 3-iron second shot over the green and missing a tricky 3-footer for a par. He finished with a par. It was the only time in his career, Daley said, that he kept the scorecard.
