Jason Gore and Craig Lile shot 12 under par. Gore shot 12-under 59 in 2005 while on the Nationwide Tour. Lile, also on the Nationwide Tour at the time of his round, shot 12-under 60 in 2003.
Other records include Curt Tate's 10-under 62 from the blue tees, Marisa Baena's 10-under 62 from the women's championship tees and Felicia Hutnick's 5-under 67 from the women's red tees.
The day he shot his 59 at Champions Run in Omaha, Gore insisted he didn't know what his final eagle putt meant until it was halfway to the hole.
Two years later, in 2007, he came clean to a Golf magazine editor.
“I had to make a 20-footer for eagle on the last hole to shoot 59,” Gore said. “I told everybody I didn't know it was for 59, but that's not true. I knew. I'm a sucker for drama.”
Gore eagled two of his final four holes that late Friday afternoon at the 2005 Cox Classic as he finished his second round on the front nine. With most of the late-day crowd around the 18th green, there still were about 150 people who witnessed the first 59 shot on the Nationwide Tour since 1998.
Gore went on to win the tournament in a playoff.
