Grandview (Mo.) tight end Freedom Akinmoladun — who visited for Big Red Weekend — pledged to the Huskers by calling NU tight ends coach Barney Cotton.
The 6-foot-5 238-pounder picked Nebraska over offers from Illinois, Iowa, Kansas and Kansas State. He caught 21 passes for 331 yards and a touchdown as a junior for Grandview.
“Hopefully I become a great target in the offense,” Akinmoladun told Huskers Illustrated. “I want to be a great target for the quarterback. I expect to grow up, become a man and help out wherever I need to be at.”
Akinmoladun, who also plays basketball for Grandview (pictured), is rated a three-star across the board.
Akinmoladun's mom, Sherryee, grew up in Omaha, graduating from Benson High School. She gave birth to Freedom in Omaha. She hadn't planned on it, Freedom said, but as his parents drove to Missouri, she felt like labor was suddenly near. They turned the car around.
Freedom's older brother, Olukayode “Junebug” Akinmoladun, started at right guard at the University of Nebraska at Kearney last season. Several of Freedom's extended family members, including current Husker sprinter Oladapo Akinmoladun, attended Nebraska.
