Nebraska's 2018 recruiting class is down to eight after a decommitment from a longtime pledge within the program's 500-mile radius.

Consensus four-star athlete Mario Goodrich of Lee's Summit (Missouri) West tweeted out his news, thanking God, his parents and NU's outgoing coaching staff as well as Husker fans for their role in his football experience.

"After speaking with my parents and with their support I have decided to open my recruitment back up," Goodrich wrote to close his tweet. "Thank you NEBRASKA! It was a humbling experience!!"

Goodrich — one of Nebraska's top cornerback targets — announced his commitment to the Huskers in a tweet on May 23, 2017.

Goodrich, a four-star prospect according to most services, visited NU during the Spring Game.

The defensive back received an offer from the Huskers on Jan. 18, 2017.

He made his first visit to Nebraska for the Minnesota game on Nov. 12.

On Feb. 7, Nebraska recruiting staff member Todd McShane posted a message on Twitter that seemed intended for Goodrich. Included with a gif of Mario, the video game character, was the message: "KC (to) LNK. Gotta own your home turf! Let's making it happen young fella!"

Goodrich then returned to Lincoln for his second visit when he attended the Huskers' spring game on April 15. Afterward, he spoke highly of the visit in an interview with Husker Online.

Goodrich attends the same high school that produced Husker lineman Boe Wilson.

Goodrich plays both sides of the ball for his high school, though he likely projects to defensive back in college. He had eight touchdowns on offense as a junior in 2016 to go with seven interceptions — including two he returned for scores — and a kickoff return touchdown.

World-Herald staff writer Sam McKewon included him on his early list of 25 prospects to watch for the Huskers' 2018 recruiting class.
