71. Angee Henry
Track & Field / Bellevue / Born: 1975
QUICK FACTS:
Played for: Bellevue West High and Nebraska Cornhuskers
Best athlete from Nebraska played with or against: Kathy Travis, Lincoln Christian and NU. "She was a great competitor. I remember she also was tough in high school."
Best moment as an athlete: "I was competing in a track meet in the Ukraine, and I was asked to run in the 100. It wasn't my event, but I won. That made me feel really good."
Early sign of greatness: When she was little, she used to race little boys home from school -- and she usually won.
If experience is a good teacher, then Boys Town has nothing to worry about. Angee Henry is beginning her second year there coaching girls track, freshman volleyball and junior high basketball.
"I really enjoy coaching and teaching the kids about life skills," she said. "I feel like I've got a lot to give."
The high points of her career include being a two-time NCAA long jump champion, a threetime conference champion and 10-time All-American at NU. She's also the state high school record-holder in the 400 meters (55.36).
After her career at Nebraska, Henry spent much of her time competing in Europe. She returned in 2002 and did some coaching at the University of South Dakota and Millard North before moving on to Boys Town.
"I think it might be tougher for an athlete to be a coach," she said. "You have to watch out that you don't expect too much from your kids."
