Former Creighton baseball star Darin Ruf is headed to the West Coast.
The Los Angeles Dodgers announced Friday they had acquired Ruf and Darnell Sweeney from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for Howie Kendrick.
Ruf, an Omaha native who played at Omaha Westside High School, is a career .240 hitter through five seasons in the majors, all with Philadelphia. He played in 43 games last season, batted .205 with three home runs and nine RBIs.
Ruf started all 227 games while at Creighton from 2006-09. He hit .331 with the Bluejays, finishing with 57 doubles, 27 home runs and 201 RBIs.
