Husker I-back commit Kendall Bussey had another impressive performance this week, rushing 12 times for 184 yards and three TDs on Thursday night, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Bussey also had two receptions for 15 yards.
In a weekly update of the nation's leading candidates to take home the Heisman Trophy, USA Today's Paul Myerberg lists Nebraska I-back Ameer Abdullah at No. 2, trailing only Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota. Moving up two spots from fourth, Myerberg notes Abdullah's vital role at the center of the Husker offense: "Abdullah probably won't leapfrog Mariota, but a win Saturday against Michigan State would virtually assure the senior of a permanent spot as a Heisman finalist. He's been everything for Nebraska, which leans heavily on Abdullah's game-breaking ability as the centerpiece of coordinator Tim Beck's explosive offense. He's delivered: Abdullah has been the nation's most prolific skill player."
According to a weekly update on the race for the Big Ten's top honors, ESPN's panel of football watchers have picked Husker I-back Ameer Abdullah as the leading candidate through five weeks to take home the conference's Graham-George Offensive Player of the Year award. On Abdullah, who grabbed all six first-place votes: "Abdullah had another 200-yard day against Illinois as his fantastic season continues. He has run for more than 100 yards in each of the last two years against this week's opponent, Michigan State." Of course, the high praise shouldn't be too surprising: World-Herald staff writer Sam McKewon has Abdullah currently tabbed as the nation's top running back.
With another huge night against Illinois, Nebraska's Ameer Abdullah ranks fourth in ESPN's Heisman Watch poll. He received one third place vote, four fourth place votes and three fifth place votes.

Jack Hoffman has grown into more than that Husker-jersey wearing pediatric brain cancer patient who ran down the field during the Nebraska spring game, both literally and figuratively. Hoffman, the Nebraska native that now comes to mind for many when they think of the fight against cancer, celebrates his 9th birthday today. And as expected, many of the people his story has impacted — he's been honored nationally for that moment, but his Team Jack organization has also spent countless hours raising awareness for the fight against cancer — have reached out on social media, from former Huskers to U.S. Senators, media members and fans, to send him birthday wishes.
