Private Jay Y Bagley
Company D, 21st New York Cavalry
Bagley was born on July 31, 1836. He enlisted and was mustered in the regiment on December 29, 1863 at Enfield, New York. Bagley served about 18 months. He was discharged on July 7, 1866 at Denver, Colorado.
The 21st New York Cavalry was organized at Troy, New York. Company D was mustered on August 28, 1863. The unit was assigned to duty in Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland during the War. In June 1865 the regiment was sent to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and remained there until it was mustered out in August 1866.
Bagley died on August 22, 1930 at the age of 94 years. He is buried in the Sunset Cemetery in Cedar Rapids (Boone County), Nebraska. Bagley was a member of the Caddell Post (#74) of the Grand Army of the Republic in Cedar Rapids.
