Corporal Joel M Barlow
Company B, 135th Illinois Infantry (100 days, 1864)
Barlow was born in Marion County, New York on January 17, 1844. He was residing in Mahomet (Champaign County), Illinois when he enlisted on May 2, 1864. The 20 year old farmer enlisted as a corporal. Barlow was mustered on June 6, 1864 and served about 3 ½ months. He was discharged on September 28, 1864 at Mattoon, Illinois.
The 135th Illinois Infantry was organized at Mattoon, Illinois on June 6, 1864 for 100 days of service. The regiment was assigned to guard duty on the Missouri Pacific Railroad.
Barlow died on August 23, 1931 at the age of 87 years. He is buried in the Belvidere Cemetery in Belvidere (Thayer County), Nebraska.
