Beason was born on August 10, 1844. He enlisted and was mustered in the regiment on September 1, 1864. He served about 4 months and was discharged on December 31, 1864 at Denver.
The 3rd Colorado Cavalry was organized at Denver between August 20 and September 21, 1864. The unit was designated for 100 days of service. It was assigned to duties against the Arapahoe and Cheyenne Indians in Colorado. The most notable engagement for the unit occurred on November 30, 1864 at Sand Creek in the Colorado Territory.
Beason died on January 16, 1939 at the age of 94 years. He is buried in the Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City (Otoe County), Nebraska.
